An image of a ceramic sculpture with three faces.
ARTIST:  Steven Van Cleave  "S.T.V.C."

DATE FINISHED:  1995

STATUS:  Available

MEDIA/MATERIAL:  Ceramic sculpture; stoneware, sculpture body

TECHNIQUES:  Slab and coil construction

DIMENSIONS:  18"x18"x40"

COMMENTS:  This piece was fired seven times to achieve the surface quality. Between firings the flaws in the glaze surface were ground, then glaze was reapplied. It was fired in a home-made ceramic fiber kiln built on a steel tripod up at the end of Silverado Canyon in Orange County, California. A hand winch lifted the kiln off the pad to allow placing and removing large, heavy sculptures.

I intended Triboca to mean three mouths or three messengers.
